Mission Statement
  • To become the best Bangladesh football related site on the Internet.
  • To promote a positive image of the beautiful game in Bangladesh.
How it all began...

I first took an interest in Bangladesh football, when I visited the country during the summer of 2004. I watched a lot of club matches on TV in Bangladesh during my stay. When I got back to the UK, I decided to look on the internet for sites related to Bangladesh football. The best I found at the time (number 1 rank for keywords 'bangladesh football' in Google) was banglafootball.com. I looked around the site for a while when I realised that the site was last updated in 2002! That was two years at the time, God knows how it stayed number 1 in Google for so long. (It still has not been updated and it is now 2008)

Anyways, I thought that this was not right. I even tried the official Bangladesh Football Federation site but that was no good either. The option of creating my own site at that time was not in my head, frankly because I had no idea how to do so! Therefore, I had to settle for the official Asian Football Confederation Site as source for Bangladesh football related news.

Time to take action!

Then, between 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, I began creating lots of different little sites, nothing to do with sports, just personal and music sites. Along the way, I taught myself a decent amount of HTML. As I was watching the World Cup, I remembered how under represented Bangladesh football was to the world. Therefore, armed with my decent knowledge of html, I began to start creating my own Bangladesh Football site. I had no money to put into it, and as I was inexperienced, I settled for free hosting from Yahoo! Geocities. I got a free domain from .TK and marketed the site as bangladeshfootball.tk. I searched all over the net for information and learnt more HTML along the way. After a few days, the site was ready.

Geocities to Googlepages...

After a while, I stopped updating it but when I saw the amount of hits I was getting from around the world, I thought I had to keep going. The Geocities ads annoyed me, and it looked unprofessional, so I started looking for free hosts with no ads. I eventually settled for Googlepages, as I found it really easy to use, on October 2006.

I then got a new, shorter free domain from .CO.NR, banglafootball.co.nr, in January 2007. I also got a forum for the site around the same time.

I moved the site to Blogger, during March 2007, to take advantage of the ease of publishing new stories and the comments feature. Also the use of tags in stories would give me a better chance of being found by people using search engines to look for specific stories. This has proved successful as I have been receiving a lot of traffic from Google, for lots of different search terms.

First few dollars spent

In April 2007, I decided to take the site to new heights by purchasing a top level domain. I purchased www.banglafootball.net on the 4th and this was the first time that I had spent any money on the site. Hopefully the site will pay for itself, from advertising.

My goal for this site is to become the number 1 Bangladesh football site on the net. I hope it comes true...

Timeline
  • Site officially launced as bangladeshfootball.tk (July 2006)
  • Moved from Geocities to GooglePages (October 2006)
  • New domain, banglafootball.co.nr (January 2007)
  • Forum added (January 2007)
  • Moved from GooglePages to Blogger (March 2007)
  • Bought new top level domain, www.banglafootball.net (April 2007)
Please note that all my sites, past and present, have been designed within Firefox. Therefore, they are best viewed within that browser.

hey dude

As Bangladeshis living in diaspora we should all raise fund online for different bangladesh football clubs, federation etc. Think about it 200,000 people sending $5 is 1 million. we could be the answer to bangladeshs football cash crunch.
